Ken Holsenbeck has resigned as Canyon High School’s head football coach after five seasons, The Signal reported Thursday, citing Assistant Principal Mark Overdevest.
“I still love the players, program, and community of Canyon Country. However, at this time I feel it is in the best interest of the program to have a new voice to lead it going forward,” Holsenbeck said in a statement sent to the newspaper.
Holsenbeck took over for the 2022 season and led the Cowboys to a 15-35 record over five seasons, according to The Signal. Canyon finished the 2026 season 1-9 and winless in Foothill League play.
He plans to remain at Canyon as a special education teacher and co-athletic director alongside Michael Morgan, the report said.
Overdevest told The Signal that a search for the next head coach had begun and a job posting was available on the district website as of Nov. 5.
Holsenbeck thanked the parents, coaches and family members who supported him, and said the players had given him a lifetime of memories.
