The bigger-granny-flat rules we previewed Tuesday are moving. The Planning Commission unanimously approved the new Class 2 ADU category - backyard units up to 1,000 square feet - at this week’s meeting, sending the changes to the City Council for a final vote.
Planner Zarui Chaparyan told commissioners the amendments also fix a height quirk: “This amendment would allow these homeowners a simpler path forward and the same opportunity as those with taller existing or proposed homes.”
The details are the same ones from our earlier story: no parking required near transit centers, design standards matching the main house. Council approval is still required before any changes can take effect.
